My 6 Must Haves for Summer Skin & Hair

Howdy guys! A while back I wrote alllll about how insecure I’ve been about my body lately and my total lack of motivation to try harder than I currently am (you can read about it on this post). Well, I think that it might be possible that the energy I typically put into my body has been shifted to my daily skin and hair routine. I’ve been all about it lately. So I thought I would share 6 of my new MUST HAVE items for Summer Skin & Hair!

Reading about the latest products and research has me realizing that 25 is not too young to start using anti aging products!  My mom has always preached that skincare should be #1! When she was younger, the popular thing was to lay out… on a metal roof… with baby oil as ‘sunscreen’! I’m won’t lie and tell you that I’ve never done this, because 16 year old Kassy was seriously concerned about having a tan year round. 25 year old me, on the other hand, hears all of the things my mom has been screaming at me all my life like: WEAR SUNSCREEN, MOISTURIZE, and STOP FRYING YOUR HAIR! Apparently she’s learned her lesson!

Loud and clear, ma, loud and clear!

Apparently she’s learned her lesson! But still, though, she’s aging like a swan. Do swans age well? Because I mean that she’s aging SUPER WELL! (PS MOM: sorry for throwing you under the bus about the whole tin roof, baby oil thing, LOVE YOU)

Ok! On to my favorites! A lot of these, in case you haven’t noticed, are Lush products because your girl (ME!) has only recently discovered this gem of a store. Previously, I would run away from it because all the scents make my nose itch and I’m not allowed to use bath bombs (my urologist says so)! But, I’ve found their skin and hair treatments and I’m OBSESSEEEEDDDDD!

Ok, Here we go!

  1. Coconut Oil: For real, if you don’t have organic coconut oil by the gallons in your home, where have you been? It’s been used in the kitchen for ages, but when they figured out all of the things it can do for your skin and hair… like WOAH! In fact, I read a study recently that showed that coconut oil has WAY more benefits for the outside of your body than it does for the inside. I use it as a hair mask before I wash, I use it to tone down my friz and smooth my ends after fixing my hair, and I use it to take off any stubborn water proof makeup! In the photo’s above, you’ll see that I actually keep it in that tiny little container that used to hold some other kind of makeup. It’s perfect for traveling and gives you just enough to use for hair smoothing and makeup remover. I can’t take the credit for the small container idea. That was my sis – the beauty guru in our house!
  2. LUSH: Let the Good Times Roll:  Laissez les bon temps rouler. This one really spoke to the Louisiana Girl in me (in case you’re not from LA, that weird cajun french phrase is Louisiana’s motto: Let the good times roll)! My sister actually bought this for herself and I’m in love. It’s a facial cleanser to use in the morning and at night before bed. It’s such a weird consistency. It almost feels like that magic sand stuff that kids play with but it exfoliates gently and moisturizes like no other. It’s perfect if you have dry skin like us!
  3. LUSH: Don’t Look At Me: This was my very first Lush face mask. I wanted something that cleaned and brightened my skin because it was feeling so dull and gross. This is that pretty blue mask that I’m wearing above. Not only is it a beautiful color (like, HEYY!) but it does exactly what it says it will. My skin feel sooooo clean after using this and it look kind of glowy. Like for real! When you rinse it, you get to massage it in and it gives you a little exfoliating cleanser as well. It smells like honey and citrus and it makes me swoon.
  4. LUSH: Mask of Magnaminty: On a recent trip to Lush, I asked about blackheads because those suckers are the worst! The girl suggested this mask which is great for cleaning acne spots and minimizing pores. It has a clean minty smell and kind of gives your face a mild ‘icy-hot’ experience. I love to sit in front of a fan while wearing this and feeling that cooling mint all over my face. This is THE BEST cleansing mask. I feel like it cleans everything out. The girl at the store said ‘This will suck out everything but your soul” and I’m like “I’ll take it!”  When I wash this off, I feel like I have dewy skin which the look right now. I also like to use it on my neck and chest or anywhere where I get sweat or dirt build up (hello cleavage area)!
  5. LUSH: ROOTS: Whoever created this stuff, knew about that thin, damaged, breakable hair life. I’ve been wanting to grow my hair out, but my hair is literally the slowest growing hair in the world (I seriously only shave my legs every 3 weeks)! The hair on my head is no different. So I researched ways to grow it faster, Roots was on the top of the list. This is a hair mask that you massage onto your scalp and leave on for 20ish minutes. It, like the Mask of Magnaminty, is made from cooling mint. You’re scalp will actually get tingly which is super fun! I massage my scalp several times while it sits and before I wash it out! My hair is noticeably stronger and has even grown about an inch since I started using it a couple of weeks ago! I typically wash my hair every 2 1/2 days and put in in almost every time before I shower. I LOVE IT.
  6. Maria Bedescu Rose Facial Spray: This may be my new favorite. It may not seem like much at first. It’s only $7 and is a rosewater mist for your hair and skin. You basically just spritz your skin whenever you need a little extra moisture. You can use it as a make up primer or as a setting spray. I, personally, using it before bed and when I wake up. I also give myself a spritz after my makeup is finished to ‘set’ it. It gives me a dewy glow. I’m excited to take this to the beach with me next week to keep my face cool and moisturized in the hot sun. I think I might even stick in in the cooler to make it even colder!

By the way, this post is totally not sponsored. These are actual products and I use regularly that I think are fantastic! If you’ve never been into a Lush store, you should totally stop in! They have all kinds of fun things, most of which are chemical and toxin free!
