Howdy, folks. I’m a huge slacker. I’m 21 weeks pregnant and JUST NOW posting an update on my pregnancy. By this point in my pregnancy with Kate, I had updated you guys dozens of time and shared way more information than you guys cared to know. So here is my attempt to catch everyone up with a 20 week bump update! If you missed my post on how we found out about this pregnancy, make sure you check it out here!
How Is Baby?
We just had our 20 week anatomy scan and all is well. Honestly, I forgot to ask all of the things like what percentile he’s in and all that jazz (I blame it on second pregnancy syndrome)! But according to my app, he’s around 10 or so inches long and starting to resemble an actual human! He kicks like crazy. I’ve been able to feel his movements since about 17 weeks, but in the last 2, Keith has been able to feel his kicks outside my belly. He really enjoyed the beach. While I sat in my chair listening to the waves, he was kicking me like CRAZY!!! Hopefully, he’s a beach bum like his mom!
How is Kate?
She’s flippin adorable, thats what she is. Obviously, at 15 months old, she has no clue of what’s about to happen. But when I ask her where Baby Max is, she tries to pull up my shirt. At first I thought she was going to confuse ‘baby max’ with ‘belly.’ But as it turns out, she knows where her belly is if you ask her. Whether or not she thinks my stomach is named ‘Baby Max’ or not is still up for debate
Any Symptoms?
I was pretty queasy the first 14 or so weeks. But I only threw up twice, which is way less than with Kate, so I’m counting that as a win! Weirdly, I’ve had a lot of {FYI: THIS IS GROSS} crusty blood in my nose every morning. I know that the amount of blood in my body has increase significantly, but in my nose? ODD!
I was CRAZY exhausted in the first trimester. Way more tired than I remember being with #1 but #1 is probably partly responsible for said exhaustion. I’ve felt much more like myself in the second trimester, though.
Also the ligament paint this time around has been way worse. I can’t laugh or sneeze or turn over in bed without that stretching ligament pain. Doc says it’s completely normal, but 100% super annoying.
Weight Gain?
No Clue. I refused to ask at the doctor’s office this time. Last she told me, I had only gained like 3 pounds but I feel like I’ve gained 1000.
Are you Showing?
Research and most of the general public told me that you show WAY faster with baby #2. However, I think maybe I’m showing a little faster, but not much, actually. I feel content about where I am. I LOOK pregnant I’m not huge. It’s a nice place to be!
Due Date?
So my due date is January 19th. This was decided based on how the baby was measuring at the 8 week and 20 week ultrasounds. Since I didn’t have a normal cycle when I got pregnant, we couldn’t use that at a reference! But baby boy is measuring RIGHT on schedule. So we’ve already scheduled a repeat C section for January 13th at 7 am! So yay for baby day. It also happens to be Keith’s first day of spring semester… oops!
Why a C Section?
Before I start with this, just know that every OB has different opinions on this AND you should talk to your Doctor about what is best for you. My doctor prefers not to perform VBACs (Vaginal Birth After C-Section). I knew that going in. I’m honestly not super interested in having a Vaginal Birth. I’m totally fine with my sections. I still wish I would’ve been able to deliver vaginally with Kate but my anatomy literally didn’t allow it. Read Kate’s Birth Story here! Knowing what I know, I honestly, don’t even want to going to go down that road again.
Plus, when we deliver baby #2, it will have about about 19 months after my last C-Section. Another thing my doctor brought up was that even the OBs in her practice who DO perform VBACs prefer not to perform them within 18 months of each other due to complications! 19 months is cutting it a little close for me, so I’m going to stick with my scheduled delivery. Since I went into labor naturally with Kate, labored at home, and did everything I couldn’t to deliver vaginally, I feel like I’ve had enough experience with the whole things.
But like I said, everyone is entitled to do it however they want to as long as that’s what’s best for baby!
That’s all I can think of and I’m kinda down for a nap right now. I’ll try to update you guys again BEFORE the baby is born!
