A Night Out with Visit Jackson, MS

Y’all, the first Jackson, MS Blogger meet up happened last week and I could not be more excited to share it with you guys! Not only did I meet some of the most AWESOME boss babes in Mississippi, but I discovered some absolute gems in my OWN town. Thanks so much to Jonathan at Visit Jackson for putting this together for us. Keep reading to hear all about out adventures!

First, you should know all about the fabulous ladies that I spent my afternoon getting to know. I’m going to link their blogs here and you can find their social media links on their websites.

Meagan Adams – Twenty Two Lane. Probably the coolest, most down to earth chick, EVER! She’s a wife and mama to the CUTEST baby girl, Viv! Her style is chic so chic and so creative! I love it!

Kathryn Rooker DiHennaro – Kathryn-Isms. Sweetest, newlywed, southern belle on the block! She works in a corporate office and has TONS of great workwear and work inspired blogs.

Jane Foster – Southern Shine. Talk about the ULTIMATE southern lady. Jane is my #goals and total motivation to live my dreams and dress like a total BABE no matter what age I am. She’s an Ole Miss Tailgating connoisseur, too!

Laurel Donahoo – The Hive Blog. Laurel is the ultimate creative. She has her hands in all the things and she does them perfectly! She runs several social media pages and is a fabulous mom of (almost) three to boot! Plus, she’s a 6ft tall GLAMAZON!

Kelsie Bynum – Sassy Southern Blonde. No wonder ‘sassy’ is in her blog title, because this girl is a ball of FIRE! I absolutely love her fun loving, bright personality and she has the style to match!

Our first stop on the tour of all things Jackson was Cathead Distillery. Did you know that Cathead Vodka was made right here in Jackson, MS? Me either! Now I do, though.  It’s the first Distillery to open in Mississippi since Prohibition! Not only to they make, age, and bottle their products here but they also offer tours, tastings and have a fantastic event space right in their warehouse! They’re open for tours Thursday & Friday from 3-6pm and Saturday from 1-6pm.

My favorite part was seeing the barrel room where they store and age their vodkas, gins, and chickory liquor. It was gorgeous and smelled like the amazing cedar barrels that lined the walls all the way up to the ceiling. They have special barrels for each of the owners children to be opened at their 21st birthdays which I thought was SO FUN!

We also were able to taste all of their products. And when I say taste, I mean I dipped my tongue in the shot glass. I know literally nothing about good liquor, but the honeysuckle vodka was pretty darn good for vodka. The Chickory Liquor (HooDoo) lived up to it’s name and tasted like Louisiana to me!

I’m so fascinated by how things are made and really enjoyed getting learn something new. The staff at Cathead was AMAZING. You’ve GOT to go on a tour. Even if you’re not a drinker, the experience was so great. Plus, they have live music there super often and it’s kid and pet friendly! Talk about a great weekend spot!

Our next stop was the Apothecary in the Fondren District in Jackson. I had actually been here several times and enjoyed it just as much this time as I had previously. The coolest thing about this little bar is that it’s located in the back room of Brent’s Drugs. Brent’s is the cutest little 1960s diner (it was actually in the movie – The Help) that served yummy burgers, milkshakes, and soda pops!

If you make your way to the back of Brent’s, you come to this big wooden door, through a curtain, and into a 1920s style speakeasy. In staying with the old school drugstore theme, they called it the Apothecary. They serve ‘prescription’ cocktails and every kind of whiskey, bourbon, and scotch you can imagine (or at least I can imagine)!

We had the most delicious bread and hummus and some yummy signature cocktails. I went with something fruity and tropical, of course! This place has the COOLEST vibe for happy hour or after dinner drinks. It’s a 10/10 in my book!

The last stop on our trip (and possibly the most important – dinner) was Barrelhouse also in the Fondren District of Jackson. We enjoyed a round of cocktails and shared some of their yummy small plates. The brought us this yummy charcuterie plate, some oysters, sliders and various other things. The brisket tots were to DIE for and the tuna nachos were a winner as well.

I love the cool, bright vibe of this space. It was 100% blogger and photo friendly with a warm, but modern atmosphere. Barrelhouse has an extensive wine, beer, and whiskey list as well as their yummy signature cocktails. I had the Blueberry Pomegranate martini and it was SPECTACULAR.

We also, of course, grabbed the dessert which was a blondie cookie skillet with ice cream on top. It was gone in under 90 seconds because us girls DON’T PLAY!

If you’re from Jackson or ever in the Jackson, MS area, you’ve GOT to try these spots for yourself. You won’t be sorry!
