So excited to finally take a few minutes and share this with you! It’s been finished for a few weeks and we’ve been REALLY enjoying it! We spend several hours out there everyday when the weather is nice! Especially since we have the TV out there now (I’ll share more about that down below). We are LOVING our back porch makeover. I’m linking everything below in case you want to give your own outdoor space a makeover!
This space in our home is one that we used so often but never put any time or money into. We were using hand-me-down furniture and cushions that our dogs had basically ruined. So, we decided (full disclosure) to use one of our stimulus checks to give this space the love it deserves.
This is the first time that I’ve ever designed a space for my home and actually sat down and ordered it ALL at once. It honestly gave me so much anxiety to do that, but when things started to come in, I was SO DANG EXCITED. To see something you pictured in your head take shape is one of the BEST parts about being a designer. And doing it in my own home was the BEST feeling.
I went with creamy white furniture, which most people would be afraid of, but we bought furniture covers immediately when we purchased all of the pieces. So the furniture is covered unless we are actively using it. So the dogs can’t sit on it without us knowing. Plus, they’re not allowed on it, ever. Which is an interesting lesson to have to teach an 11 year old lab who has always been allowed on anything. But we did purchase THIS outdoor bed for them to use and they love it!
Immediately upon delivery, I used THIS SCOTCHGUARD on all of the cushions of the sofa for extra protection. They’re already outdoor rated, but I didn’t want to take any chances. It took 4 bottles to do all of the cushions for the sofa and chairs. I also give it a once over after every time we use it and if I see a spot, I use this miracle cleaner, FOLEX, to get the spot up before it sets. I should buy stock in that stuff.
The art is maybe my favorite part. I used a shower curtain from Society 6 to create it. It’s the fabric portion of a shower curtain so it’s not plastic, but it’s made with moisture wicking, mildew resistant material. I created a frame to wrap it and then put some lattice around the outside to make a black frame. Here is the pinterest post that I used with instructions on how to do it!
The last thing I wanted to mention is an outdoor TV. Actual outdoor rated TVs are $$$$$ so we knew we didn’t want to go that route. Not to mention, there isn’t really a good place for an outdoor mount. So we decided to do a rolling TV cart with a cover. We used a standard 40″ ROKU TV and mounted it on THIS ROLLING CART from amazon. Then we bought THIS COVER and it’s PERFECT. Although, full disclosure, it had rain shield layer that I cut because it was harder to see through. We ran an extension cord under our porch to where we thought we’d likely be plugging it most often and we can lock it in our storage room when there is bad weather or when we go out of town! It’s be the perfect solution!
We absolutely love our space. And hope this post helps you guys when designing the perfect outdoor space for you!
This is SO good!! Love the idea of using part of a shower curtain for outdoor art. Brilliant!! Thanks for the inspo! And just bought some folex! 🙂
