Merry Christmas Eve, Everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful Holiday season so far. If you keep up with the Blog, you’ve probably heard me say that Christmas is my favorite season EVER. Not only do I love the magic and reverence of the Holiday but I also love that December 25th doubles as my BIRTHDAY (we won’t count that as a fact – that’s a freebee)!!
Sharing a Birthday with my Savior is very special to me. Some people say I get gipped but I think I get even more love and affection from family and friends than I would if I had been born any other day of the year. Plus, it’s always a great reminder that this life is not about me, but about bring glory to God who created me, especially on the day of my birth. To celebrate this awesome day, I thought I would share 25 fun facts about me to help you all get to know me better. Ready? Ok… here we go!
25 Facts for 25 Years
1. My maiden name is Sanchez, which is Spanish (not Mexican, like you may think) and I have Spanish heritage on BOTH sides of my family. But my dad’s family is from the the Canary Islands – a Spanish territory off the coast of Africa. I’ve always wanted to visit… maybe one day!
2. My parents (Melinda & Rusty) have been married for almost 27 years. I have 2 siblings: a 19 year old sister (Kelsey) and a 12 year old brother (Cody)! Cody and I are 12 years apart! And NO! He wasn’t an accident! We are all purposefully spread far apart and we love it! My parent’s always say that they accidentally raised 3 first born Children because the birth order clock resets after 5 years!
3. My Husband, Keith is seriously the greatest guy I know. I’m not even lying… I keep waiting to find his fatal flaw, but so far the worst thing is that he pronounces the word ‘Gulf’ (as in the Gulf of Mexico) the same as the word ‘Golf” (like the game)! You can read more about our love story here and see photos from our wedding here!
4. I’m a syfy/fantasy nerd. I love Star Trek, Star Wars, the Marvel Universe, and any fantasy book series you an think of. That was always my chosen genre for books in high school. I’m not a sappy love story fan – give me the most unusual, imaginative book or movie you can think of.
5. Since I’ve stated the above… I am a Ravenclaw – Through and through! Harry Potter grew up with me (I read one book every year so we were the same age) and I feel like we could have been best friends! I’ve been to Harry Potter World at Universal Orlando and it was AMAZEBALLS! Yes I own a wand – Luna’s – because we are both Ravenclaws!
6. I have 2 dogs – a chocolate lab named Collins and a 20lb mixed breed named Louis Henry Sullivan the Dog (not to be confused with the great american architect). They are our life. We need to have Children because we are way too obsessed with our puppies! Collins thinks she’s a human and sits in the chair like she is and Sully has my personality to a T – which is good and bad! You can see a pic of them together in this post! As I type this, Sully is sitting in my lap and Collin’s is sitting in Keith’s lap. Makes it super easy to type!
7. I’m not naturally compassionate. I love people and being around them but only for short periods of time. I’m not great at making new friends and people typically think I’m not interested in chatting with them on first glance! But I am, don’t worry! I don’t mean to look stand-offish, I’m just not great with first impressions! Just ask all of my closest friends!!! It’s an issue I’m constantly working at.
8. I was a competitive cheerleader through junior high and high school! In fact, Walker High School won 4th place in the entire nation my senior year! We were awesome and I’m still really proud of that team!
9. I don’t each vegetables. Sometimes I do if they’re covered in butter and seasoning or mixed in a recipe… but don’t count on it!
10. I could eat Pizza for every meal of every day – but I don’t because Keith says I shouldn’t – and I know he’s right.
11. I sing. For a long time, that is what I wanted to do with my life – sing professionally. But after exploring that option for a while, I realized that I didn’t really want to be famous because that comes with so many strings attached and I’m not willing to give up all of the little things just for a little money and fame. Here’s a little bit of me singing at Miss Louisiana a few years back if you wanna hear – Click here! Now, I’m super happy just to be using my gift to sing and lead worship in church!
12. Sometimes I make brownies just to eat the batter – but who doesn’t, right?
13. I’m a pretty good driver, but when I’m talking or listening to music, I drive really slow and sometimes I stop at green lights. Just in case, I guess! Could be worse.
14. I pretend to be spontaneous, but really I’m a thinker and a researcher. I researched everything (ok.. probably not everything) there is to know about web design and blogging for months before I launched Kassy On Design. And I pretty much follow this pattern in all areas of my life. Before I buy something, I’ve probably read at least 10 reviews and the entire instruction manual! But I’ll probably pretend like I haven’t and act all nonchalant about it!
15. I’m a handy man! My husband has bought me tools and wood and all the things I need to work around the house! I love to do ‘projects’ and build things. I get this from my dad who is the smartest/handiest guy I know! I’m pretty good at it too!
16. I can only cook about 4 things. And that ‘s usually all I cook for friends and family. The 4 dishes I can cook are VERY good, so everyone thinks I’m a great cook – HAH! I’ve got them fooled!
17. Keith and I eat like 5 year olds. Our typical weekly meals include chicken (usually in low calorie nugget form) and edamame, eggs and bacon, Keith’s fried rice, cans of soup, and ceasar salad. We drink Danimals for breakfast and I usually eat a lean cuisine for lunch. We love it! Everything is fairly healthy and we can count our calories, protein, etc really easily!
18. You know how when you’re sick, you really want comfort food? My sick food (as we call it) is McDonald’s French Fries. I don’t eat McD’s any other time EVER! But when I’m sick, that’s all I want! This works well unless I get sick on Holiday’s (which for some reason happens to me often) and then I have to settle for Burger King fries because McD’s isn’t open on most holidays in my town. And we all know BK’s fries are sub par when compared to the glorious, salty, oilyness of McD’s!
19. I don’t know my left from my right. I realize that this is a basic skill that you learn very early on, but it never quite stuck. I’m not even trying to be cute, it’s become a real hinderance in life. As a result, I always point when giving directions and I don’t do well driving if the GPS isn’t giving me directions far in advance so that I can think it through. It usually takes me about 5-10 seconds to figure out which direction is left and which is right. It’s embarrassing. I don’t like to point it out, but Keith thinks it funny – unless of course I send us in the wrong direction.
20. I’m a musical fanatic. My entire family is. I know every word to ‘Rent’ and most of ‘Les Miserables’! I sing along to them in my car. My Pandora station is SO GOOD, ya’ll! My siblings and I break out into song pretty regularly, which makes Keith very uncomfortable. I’ve performed in several musicals in the Baton Rouge area and I LOVE the stage!
21. I lived in New York for 3 months one summer during college for an interior design internship with Viacom Media (MTV, Nick, CMT, etc) and it was sooooo cool! I love the city and I know that I could live there full time, but I do NOT want to raise children there. I’m also not rich enough to afford the lifestyle I’d want to live there! So maybe it’s better!
22. I’ve never been to Europe. Let the pity party commence. I’m still trying to talk my parent’s into a trip. I want to see the art and history that fueled our world… it’s strictly educational really. And then maybe some shopping…
23. My favorite movie is ’10 Things I Hate about You’! I love Shakespearean adaptations and this one takes the cake. Also, Heath Ledger is at his dreamiest!
24. My drink of choice is Sunny Delight.
25. I started blogging because I always felt like I had a calling in media somewhere – somehow and blogging seemed like a great place to start! Now, I think it might even be the end goal! I want to be able to raise a family and do a job that allows me to share the little joys and bigs ones with those around me. It is also a great outlet for me to use to share my faith (in little bits here and there) with you guys! I never thought it would come as far as it has, but I am so thankful and thrilled to see what’s coming up next!
I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Most of all, I hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas! Hug someone you love and also remember to give thanks to God for sending his Son! God Bless!
Merry Christmas!
Loved this post! Happy late birthday! Hope you had a great new year!
