Let me start by giving you the specifics of what I ordered.

James 3-seat Chaise Sectional

  • Right Side Chaise
  • Cove Performance Classic Weave
  • Standard Chaise length
  • Wide (46ā€) Chaise Width
  • 110ā€ Wide
  •  40ā€ Depth
  • Bench Cushion
  •  Down Alternative Cushion Fill

Comfort: This is one of the most comfortable sofas I’ve ever had. I define comfort with 2 things in mind. First, can I cozy up and get comfortable enough to take a nap? YES! And I’ve done this a few times. The chaise lounge area is perfect for an afternoon nap and the extra wide option is definitely the move here. All 4 of us fit in that little 46″ area comfortably.

Second, As comfy as it is, will it also hold it’s shape. This was one of the things that bugged me about our last sofa. While it was very comfortable, the back cushions DID NOT hold their shape at all. I opted for a removable back cushioned sofa because of easier washing, but I didn’t want to sacrifice structure. The back pillows on the James sofa are heads and shoulders above our last sofa in terms of structure. They’re still cushy and comfy, but I can just tell they’re going to hold up.

Fabric/Cleaning: With small kids and dogs, cleanliness was my #1 priority. So, of course, I opted for a performance fabric. I decided to avoid the white/cream family mostly because of the look I wanted in my living room, but also for the purpose of cleaning. My last sofa was cream and it got dingy pretty quickly. Luckily, the entire slipcover could be removed and washed – body and all – but I hated the moments in between washes when it started to look like a dirty rag.

I knew I wanted color in my space before we even started deciding on the sofa itself. I have a vaulted ceiling, lots of wood, and white walls currently and I wanted to break it up with a mid-toned or dark sofa. I chose the color ‘Cove’ and it feels like the perfect denim/chambray mid-tone. And denim is a neutral, right? The fabric is comfortable and the perfect softness. We’ve had a couple of spills or marks (MAX) but using my little green machine and a spray of Folex (my #1 upholstery cleaner), it came right out and looks as good as new! I can’t recommend their performance fabrics enough.

Cost: As I said above, I didn’t pay for this sofa. I know how blessed I am to be able to review things like this for my job. That being said, I think it is 100% worth the money. My exact sofa with all of the selections I made costs $3945 (thought they’re currently 25% off). I work in the world of furniture & home improvement everyday and I can tell you that $4000 is a FAIR PRICE for a nice, well designed, high performance sofa. Can you find cheaper options? Sure. But my last sofa was purchased on a seriors budget at $2200, lasted us only 3 years before it started to break apart and get saggy – not to mention it was smaller, didn’t have a chaise, and was NOT performance fabric. I’m confident that this Interior Define Sofa is going to last us longer than that for sure! I did opt for the 2 year warranty and will likely extend with the time comes because I dont’ play when it comes to large purchases like these!

Shipping: A little back story. Interior Define has been around since I was doing online interior design for Havenly.com 5-6 years ago. I used them a lot when designing for my clients. Fast forward to the pandemic in to 2022 and they were struggling. They basically filed for bankruptcy while still accepting orders and not fulfilling a lot of them. It was a mess. I stopped suggesting them to people and a lot of designers cut ties all together. Their products never stopped being great, don’t get me wrong. But shipping and customer service were all together a different story.

Havenly (the company I used to design for ) bought them in 2022 and has completely turned things around. I’ve heard great things recently and I, myself, had an absolutely seamless process through ordering and shipping. My sofa actually came EARLY! and only 6 weeks lead time. That is HUGE in the furniture world. The white glove delivery kept me informed and left me with a perfect sofa. I had a fantastic experience, so based on this, I can totally recommend Interior Define again!
