Ever had trouble landing on a paint color in a particular space? Did you know you can create a CUSTOM paint color and have it mixed anywhere? And it’s so easy
Why would you need to do this? Well, maybe you’ve tried lots of samples and they’re not quite working and you’re wasting money buying more and more samples. Or you think you found a color you love but it’s too dark or too light but the next shade up isn’t quite right either. Or maybe you just enjoy creating custom stuff. Whatever your poison, this post is for you.
I ran into this problem when trying to find the perfect shade for the top portion of Max’s bedroom. I bought a few samples but they were showing up completely differently on each wall in the space depending on the lighting on that particular wall. After trying 4 different samples, I decided I wasn’t going to waste any more time/money buying or trying more. So I mixed my own using the samples/paints I already had on hand.
Once I had the color exactly right (I mixed it 3 or 4 times) I painted my perfect color on another paint sample card I had from Home Depot. Make sure you try your sample out on ALL the walls in the room just in case! After you’re sure, take your painted paint sample to your local hardware store or paint store and ask them to color match. If you’re not confident, just grab one more sample to double check that everything is right. If you’re ready, go ahead and buy the gallon or quart that you need.
Below, you can see just how close the sample I painted was to the small swatch they put on the card of the mixed paint! Whatever little device they use to color match is spot on!
My Instagram Followers and I have decided to call this color “Maxed & Relaxed”! And I’ve included the color code from Home Depot below if you’re looking for something similar! I hope you’ll find this post helpful if you’re ever need to create your own custom paint color!
