Neutral & Natural

Even though I am a big-time lover of all things colorful, neutral color palettes seem to make the most comfortable, inviting interiors. They feel ‘homey.’ It’s as if you were going to curl up on your grandma’s comfy plush sofa, grab a blanket that your great aunt crocheted and watch ‘The Price is Right!’ (this is a fairly accurate depiction of my childhood)

When we think of neutral interiors, we typically think boring or over-traditional. This does NOT have to be the case with your home. Many people prefer neutral interiors in their own home because it simply EASIER: Easier to find furniture, easier to match, easier to replace things.  Don’t mistake easy for boring.

I’m going to do a series on neutral interiors for those of your who prefer slightly less loud and obnoxious colorful design. This week I’ve gone with a neutral and natural approach.

neutral&natural

This room design almost has a safari feel to it, huh? But not safar(i) away from what you’d expect. (see what Keith did there? so far – safar? My fiance, ya’ll!!)

For most people, this is a much more realistic living room than one with a turquoise sofa. This sofa is a nice natural beige color that can be transitional for many interior styles. It will take you through redesign after redesign. This coffee table is AWESOME, right? The shape is extremely modern while the material lends itself to the more traditional. Add another neutral piece with this grey accent chair and you’ve got the basics of this design. The other pieces are the pizazz!

Pizazz starts NOW. I used a very geometric large pattered run in natural colors to give our room a little somethin’ special. A very stylized side table with a gold bottom and wooden top add some much needed metallic to our space.

Fall is here even if it doesn’t feel like it in south Louisiana. To demonstrate my defiance to this hot climate, I’ve included a knit floor pouf and knit throw pillow. Aren’t poufs just the coolest thing? I’m dying to have one myself. They are good for so many things. I’ve even seen people use them as tables when they are sitting on the floors. Just pop a little tray on top and voila!

Also FUR, because if you’ve been following along with my blog, you’ll know that no space is complete without it. I added this little  graphic pillow because life IS beautiful. Every day we get to wake up and see what the Lord has in store for us and this little pillow is a reminder of that!

I added a little turquoise accent with the vase and the lamp. Kept the windows simple with dark wooden blinds, and I think it simplifies the look.

BAM. Neutral & Natural. LOVE IT.
