This was a project that I started dreaming about the moment that I stepped foot into this house back in September of 2021. And I cannot believe I’m typing up the post to show you guys my primary closet reveal. As someone who has always had a big closet – my parents were allll about maximizing storage space – I knew that this house would be no different. If you’ve been following along since we moved, you’ll know that we converted the downstairs ‘office’ into our primary bedroom.
The original primary bedroom in this house was upstairs but we opted to change things up for several reasons. The first being that the stairs are small and narrow and the idea of going up and down in the middle of the night to tend to our toddlers seemed daunting. The other also to do with our toddlers. I didn’t feel good about being on a different level than the kids. And the third reason? ZERO CLOSET SPACE. Not going to work.
The office space downstairs, though, was just itching to be converted into a Primary Suite. It had two random unused storage spaces that totaled over 300 sqft. AND the architectural details in that room are to DIE for and and some of my favorites in the house. It was settled that we would covert that space into our Primary suite, but I took a bit of time creating the final floor plan to accommodate for both a bathroom and closet space. The project took over 4 months to complete. Mostly because we had to have contractor do a bit of the work and when you need help, you’re at the mercy of those helping you. There were speed bumps and hurdles, but we made it through to the finish line. And I couldn’t be more excited, thankful, and relieved to have it finished.
This is my first major renovation to complete for MYSELF! And doing most of the work myself as well. I laid the tile, painted everything, built and shiplapped walls, and put all the finishing touches on it. A labor of love and one that I’ll be proud of forever! I even tile the space myself – see more about that here!
I linked as many sources as I could and since I know you’re wondering: The paint is ‘Pigeon’ by Farrow and Ball. The countertop is Calcutta Sol Quartz. The flooring is Ragno Rewind Brick in Corda.
I made the ottoman myself – more on that to come!
