Kate’s Big Girl Bedroom

Products

I’ve honestly been meaning to post this space for a while. It’s be finished since before Max was born and he’s 5 months old! Transforming Kate’s nursery into a big girl room was so bittersweet. When we found out Max was on his way, I knew I didn’t want to buy another crib, changing table, and glider. So the logical option was to move it all into Max’s room and prepare Kate for a transition.

Obviously, I enjoy planning and designing space, but this one has been my favorite yet. It all started with that light blue dresser. I saw a photo of a light blue dresser somewhere on the internet and I KNEW I wanted Kate’s room to have one. Oddly, it’s the only blue thing in the space. But it’s PERFECT! This is actually the Ikea Koppang Dresser painted Benjamin Moore Yarmouth Blue. Ikea furniture can be pesky to paint. This time I deglossed it with a chemical deglosser, primed it with my favorite primer, and rolled on the paint with a mini paint roller. After it was all finished, I ended up adding a few layers of water based polyurethane on the top surface just to avoid any chipping or scratching. So far, it’s held up really well! I finished it off by adding this adorable hardware (another option here) and it’s easily my favorite piece in the house.

I get asked about this bed at least 10x every time I share a photo of it. I mean, I get it, it’s fabulous! Unfortunately, I can’t link it. I came up with the design for this bed 6 years ago and my uncle built it for me out of an old fence. I did link some similar options above, but if you’re really into this look, try finding a carpenter or woodworker. I’m 100% sure they could build this. It wasn’t rocket science, just lots of hard work!

Every bed in my house has a simple white quilt or duvet on it. Why you ask? BLEACH. I’ve found that no matter what, a good bleach washing will take care of anything. Plus I love the look of white bedding. So fresh and clean. Kate has a lightweight quilt and a duvet folded up at the end for cold nights. The two Euro pillows (26″ x 26″ ) are these amazon covers and the 3 pink pillows (20″ x 20″) are these from ikea, though I linked some similar options from elsewhere. Unfortunately, the Anthropologie lumbar pillow is out of stock but I linked similar options above. The bolster is out of stock in the color I have but they still have it in a light pink!

The wallpaper was a chance find at The Little Shop on Bosque in Waco, TX. It’s Magnolia Home x Matilda Jane and I bought it on whim, thought i was going to hate it, and fell in love the second it was on the wall. I can’t find it anywhere online and I bought it on clearance so I’m pretty sure it’s gone!! SORRY!

The art is mine. I painted it specifically for this space. It’s nothing special really, but it works for me! And I chose these cheapo Ikea frames to hang it in. The best part about them is that they’re acrylic instead of glass, which I LOVE in a kid’s room. No worries about breaking!

The book shelves are actually these photo ledges and they’re perfect for kids books. I put them in almost every kid’s space that I design. The cute hat is from a local boutique, but I love using hats as decor. And the rainbow piece underneath is a DIY. This piece inspired me and I went out and bought a woven placemat and some yarn. Easy Peezy.

I think that’s about it. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! And if you never saw Kate’s room as a nursery, here it is!
