One of the posts that you guys requested, or rather a question that you asked, was ‘What tools should we buy to start doing more DIY projects in my home’? Today I’ve got an answer!
Ok, this list really involves 7 things but two of them are just accessories that I feel are necessary to get the best results with each tool. I shouls start with saying that I linked all Ryobi tools because that’s what I personally have. I started getting the Ryobi one tools years ago and since my batteries work with them, I continue to get them! I’m really happy with them so far!
- Electric Drill/Screwdriver: This is a MUST HAVE. I’d actually be surprised if you don’t already have this in your possession. As you likely already know, this guy can act as a drill to drill holes and as a screw driver. All you have to do is switch it up to a drill bit or screw head. Which leads me to #2.
- Drill Bit & Screw Head Kit: You’re always going to need more of these. So make sure you start with a quality set and when you wear through all of the phillip’s head (+) like I do, you’ll have to get more! Having a bunch of different drill bits is a necessity. I even have metal ones in my stash as well. I’m never sure what project I’ll be doing next and having these on hand is KEY!
- Circular Saw: Eventually, you’ll need to cut a straight line. A piece of plywood or a wide board. Anything that can’t be cut with a miter saw (more on this in a second). This is where a circular saw is going to come in handy. The one I have works on the same wireless battery packs making it so easy to take anywhere in on around the house.
- Kreg Circular Saw Guide: This is another accessory that I’ve come to rely on. This saw guide is AMAZING. It connects to your circular saw and acts as a straight edge. It elements the immediate need for you to purchase a table saw. I have a table saw and over the last few weeks since getting this, I haven’t reached for my table saw once. I’m already looking forward to using this gadget again!
- Oscillating Multi-Tool: The gadget of all gadgets. Jason (my contractor) and I were just saying how this is the COOLEST tool out there. “Give me an electric screw driver and a multi-tool, and I’ll build you a house,” – Jason The Contractor. It has interchangeable blades for metal, drywall, wood, you name it. It cuts by oscillating or vibrating super fast. You can also switch the head to a small detail sander as well. Truly one of the most fun tools to use. Plus it’s super small and light. SO EASY to you!
- Miter Saw: This one is the big daddy tool and likely the most expensive and larges of the tools that you’ll invest in at the beginning of your DIY journey. But, it makes cutting boards like 2x4s so easy. Mine can rotate to cut angles in 2 different directions. It’s what I use to cut all of my trim and baseboards for my house. I was SO excited to invest in this tool and I use it on EVERY PROJECT. No lies here.
- Brad Nailer: If you’re going to DIY, you’re going to need a brad nailer. Brads are like small nails and they’re vital for trim work and finish work and many other things. I use this tool so often and you’ve likely seen me do all kinds of things with it. I used to to attach the plywood to my bed, to attached my trim/baseboards, and you’ll see me use it in the next few weeks as well!
