Guest Room Makeover

The extra bedrooms in the guesthouse was one of the top reasons that we bought this house. One for Kelsey and one open bedroom for guests. Since we’re Mississippi transplants, a lot of our friends and family live out of state and we want a place to welcome them when they’re able to come visit. My mom actually spends a TON of time with us here and we actually call the guest bedroom, ‘Mom’s Bedroom’!

Regardless, it was a very lackluster space until I got my hands on it this week. I bought few new things for it, but mostly, I shopped my own house to find decor and furniture for the space. I did a few projects and brought new life to some old pieces and I LOVE how it came out.

I’ve done my best to link exact or similar items below – but a lot of it is old or thrifted! (also, say hello to Ramona!)

Rug | Linen Comforter (OOS… Similar) | Duvet Cover | Duvet Insert | H Blanket | Waffle Knit Blanket | Pillow Shams | Large Taupe Pillow | Blue Dip Dye Pillow (DIY project linked here) | Striped lumbar (cannot find! but it’s target) | Sheet Set | Bed Frame (old… similar, similar) | Curtains (old DIY… Similar, similar) | Curtain Rod | Curtain Rings | Sconces (local find… similar)

Desk (painted Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige) | Mirror | Ottomans (DIY Project Linked Here) | Lamp | Artwork (Thrifted… similar vibe) | Round Vase | Dried Eucalyptus (from Hobby Lobby)

This space is my new favorite. Just a few quick details. The walls are Sherwin Williams Alabaster (eggshell sheen). I left most of the trim wood but painted the baseboards the same as the wall. I will likely be replacing those eventually, but for now, I just wanted a bit of uniformity. I will also likely be replacing the doors and door trim eventually, but that’s a project for another day.

The desk was an old Target find. They actually still have them and they’re linked above. I painted it Sherwin Williams Accessible beige. It’s still a light, neutral tone but isn’t the exact same color as the walls which is what I wanted. Everything else was as simple as putting decor in the space. Three of the frames in the room (the two over the bed and the one on the desk) were thrifted from my local goodwill. A GREAT place to find random decor and a fun upcycling project. I LOVE digging for decor and imagining the story that comes along with each piece!

I think that just about sums it up, but if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! I hope you this makeover encourages and inspires you to rethink spaces in your home and move things around until you fall in love. It doesn’t always take tons of money. It takes vision, a little time, and some elbow grease!
